Feb 11/Feb 12 (Block Day)

Out of The Color Purple, Fences, and Wild, I enjoyed the memoir Wild the most because it felt real and personal. Knowing that the events actually happened made the story more powerful and inspiring to me. I could connect more easily to the emotions and growth the author experienced. The most challenging text for me was Fences because reading a play requires paying close attention to dialogue and stage directions to fully understand the characters’ emotions. Realizing that I connect more with personal, true stories helps me understand that I’m more engaged when I can relate to someone’s real-life journey. In the future, I can use this knowledge to stay more focused when reading other types of texts by looking for personal connections, even in fiction or drama.
